MYE 2nd Meetup Postponed

Dear Friends,

We regret to inform that MYE 2nd Meetup is postponed to another time/date (which will be announced later).

As things have been on the rough edges while the economy is stil in the toilet, we have gathered a lot of feedback from people to push the event to a later date (maybe it's a busy month). Also, we're still finding a suitable venue as our previous venue (OChaCha at Gardens) seems to have been relocated. So, once we confirm our next venue, then we can proceed.

Howdy people,

A few weeks has passed since we had our first event!

It was sure a blast! Now, the organizing committee sat down and think we can try to organize another MYE Event sometime in April? This time it will be better, bigger and even more exciting than ever!

If you would like to volunteer and help out, please remember to contact us at darrenlee(at)gmail(dot).com. We need all the hands we can get.

Plus, we look forward to Sponsorships whether is monetary, prizes, food/drinks or venue. It will help to fuel future activities and events for the group. Nevertheless, we will move forward anyway if we can't get any real sponsors - the important thing is we keep on going! That's the MYE style right? :)

It was a blast!! Thank you so much to the sponsors, co-organizers and everyone who supported the Malaysian Young Execs ' very first event! We gathered about or near 60 people came (including those who needed to leave early) but overall it was a very encouraging turn up! :))

Yes, we've locked down the location at Gardens MidValley.

The exact spot will be decided soon. Will be either a Restaurant or Cafe. Drinks shouldn't be too overly expensive. We are targeting something reasonable and affordable.

MeeetUp Format

Here's the structure (more or less) of the casual meet-up:

Duration: Approximately 2 hours

Agenda:
Announcements (5 Minutes)

- The MeetUp starts with some quick news and updates

Snapshots (20 Minutes)

- We get our small panel e.g. 3-5 people to share snippets like 5 minutes each to talk on tips/news/best practices from their respective industry... it can be anything from HR tips, management tips, financial tips, social tips, leadership, job hunting, etc, etc... We hope to get interesting people and people who are domain experts.... this should be good!

Q&A (10 Minutes)

- The crowd gets a chance to ask questions

Introductions (10-20 Minutes)
- We take this opportunity to make introductions... Depending on the size of the crowd, only early birds might get to do this in order to save time... The rest gets to do this during the networing session privately. So, it's good to come early to enjoy the perks! :)

Highlights (5 Minutes)

- Quick highlights about the community and etc.

Networking (1 Hour)

- The night continues with the networking session. Remember to bring sufficient business cards!

Here are some answers to the FAQ

How do you define as a Young Executive?
Well, someone who is young of course. Many countries have their own definitions. If I am not mistaken, Malaysia define the youth category as 40 and below. But generally if you are young at heart, then I think you are young. Take your pick.

Do I need to pay to participate in the events?
No, there is no cover charge or entry fee. We do it dutch style which means you pay for what you drink/eat if you order anything. Since the economy is riding in the low point, we are selective to places which is hopefully economical but not too overly doggy. Which means no Tai Thong, but maybe Starbucks or Old Town White Coffee.

Okay, looks like the idea is sound. So, the next step is naturally to move quickly with a experimental casual meet-up! Here are the details:

We came together with this idea in a very auspicious time. With the economy spiraling downwards and the world facing new uncertainties, it became more apparent that we will need to forge new alliances and stronger relationships to embrace the rare opportunities out there. Thus, we bring you Malaysian Young Execs!

This is a simple idea: 100% focus in helping young Malaysian executives to bridge new networking opportunities and enable a support platform to encourage each other in excelling within respective workplaces.
